The Crocus Foundation was inspired by the life and example of J. Bruce Meriwether, whose leadership was defined by courage, conviction, and an unwavering commitment to strengthening the community around him.
Bruce believed deeply that strong communities are built when people step forward to contribute, serve others, and meet the needs around them. Throughout his life, he worked to bring people together, encourage leadership, and help communities grow stronger and more connected.
During Bruce’s own journey with cancer, our family witnessed firsthand the impact that a monitored exercise program had on his physical strength, mental outlook, and overall well-being. It reinforced something he had long believed — that movement supports hope, positivity builds resilience, and staying engaged with life can help people navigate even the most difficult challenges.
That experience became the inspiration for the Crocus Foundation. Through exercise-based rehabilitation, lifestyle support, and scholarships that remove financial barriers, the Crocus Foundation helps cancer survivors rebuild strength, restore confidence, and continue moving forward after treatment.
In many of his public addresses, Bruce often shared what became known as the Crocus Prayer, written by Jane Soens. Its message of courage, integrity, and perseverance reflected the way Bruce lived his life — always working to move the world forward and strengthen the community around him.
Today, that spirit continues through the Crocus Foundation. By supporting cancer survivors and expanding access to survivorship care, we carry forward the belief that when we care for the needs of our community, we create a stronger community for everyone.
And together, we remain Forever Crocus Minded.
The Crocus Foundation provides Health and Wellness support to Cancer Survivors by minimizing the financial burden of participating in a certified Clinical Exercise Program. These Programs are designed to assist in improving the Survivor's overall quality of life in a safe and effective way.
